Plastic waste is a huge problem in Indonesia that we all need to work hand-in-hand to minimize the dangers that have been devastating to our environment and oceans.
MUDFISH NO PLASTIC is a community-based initiative that turns into a non-profit organization registered in Bali. They travel to remote villages throughout the islands of Indonesia to raise public awareness of the rising threats and dangers of single-use plastics to human life and the environment. The global movement to eliminate single-use plastic has not yet reached the majority of villages in Indonesia. Proper management of plastic waste is lacking especially in Indonesia’s coastal communities and people have relatively low knowledge about the negative impact of single-use plastics and how to manage it properly.
MUDFISH NO PLASTIC believes that the long-term solution to the plastic crisis in Indonesia depends on training and motivating the young generation to become the catalysts for positive change. They work to raise plastic pollution awareness in schools and empower students to take action and become role models in their community to fight single-use plastics and stop plastic pollution for good. They also run community workshops and Training for Trainers to teach how to properly replace, reduce and dispose of single-use plastics, and offer practical solutions such as water filtering systems, reusable bottles, and tote bags, trash containers, and collaborations with recycling organizations, as well as to provide them with the assistance and information they need to develop an effective, low-cost waste management system. The response so far from their project/workshops have been impressed that the community shows much interest in having healthy alternatives to the use of plastics, having a proper system for disposing and recycling plastic trash, and living in a clean environment.
MUDFISH NO PLASTIC has been doing so many activities both in the fields, such as beach or village clean-up programmes and no-plastic workshops in schools and villages in Bali and outside Bali. They would like to get as much exposure as to spread their mission to a broader audience about plastic pollution awareness.
